Wald (unknown model)
The drivers in these units had already been replaced with some inappropriate Electro-Voice woofers. Â There were no tweeters. The cases were originally designed to be 2- or 3- stage, so I decided to put some Pioneer woofers (12") and tweeters, with new crossovers.
The sound was muddy with the new woofers, so I opened the back panels which helped a lot, although it cut bass response a little.
New components:
12" Pioneer wooferÂ
2"Â Pioneer diaphragm tweeter
uxcel F-500 crossover
Restoration:
Cleaned all dust and polished the exterior surfaces
Installed new crossovers
Installed new speakers
Ventilated the back panel and installed a dust screen
Listening test: very satisfactory
Electronic test:Â satisfactory; see test report below
I'm pleased with the result. As you can see from the frequency SP result below, there is some tapering of bass below about 50 Hz. The bass tapering is gently sloping, and therefore is accurately corrected with a little bass boost from the amplifier or equalizer.  A very particular audiophile will want to boost the base but most people will like them just the way they are.
